Ukrainian architectural festival ARCHIVISION 2016

The reconstruction project of the museum involves extension of the interior space fourfold, in particular, by using the first floor and basement. The basis of the architectural concept of the object is the inner modern essence integrated into the volume of architectural monument. Therefore, the decisions about the surfaces in the exposition halls and in the lobby are exaggeratedly distinctive in relation to the architecture of the building.
For the sake of the economy of the project the interior walls were not finished by various materials. Instead, they have partitions. Partitions have gaps illuminated by the LED strip, so design resembles a neural net. The decision is also supported by the colours of interiors that come from the outside manifesting in delicate lines. Some parts are painted in certain colours, so we focus the attention on the scientific and fantastic nature of the exhibition space. The inside of the partitions is painted in red: they separate the part of the “Landaucentre” from the university from the side of the street. This decision helps to demonstrate that the museum has been built into the architectural monument and establishes a dialogue between the authentic and modern forms.
The museum has five exhibition halls: the Hall of Mirrors, the Hall of illusions, the Hall of Science, the Game Hall and Upturned Hall. The lobby is separated from the store by the glass wall, onto which the logo of “Landaucentre” is projected. The rooms are lit using partitions and optical fibers placed above the ceiling. Each hall has its own peculiarities. In the Hall of illusions there is a small amphitheatre for various events and the Ames room (a space of irregular shape, which is used to create three-dimensional optical illusion). The front surface of the room indicates the illusion of perspective. The Upturned Hall is inverted in relation to other rooms (inverted exhibits and optical fibers on the floor), thus completely justifying its name. In the basement there is a cafe, where you can get either from the lobby or from the street.
On each floor there are two small cinema halls for showing scientific videos. The outdoor spaces that are adjoined to the lobby and the cafe and have a direct communication with them, are also of a great importance here. Movement in the exposition space is organized in a spiral regarding given stairs. Thus, the flows of visitors to the museum do not overlap. Not a single object protected as a monument of architecture is not changed or damaged, all changes of the space occur due to outward forms being integrated into the interior of Landaucentre.
